Why Locals Love The Honey Baked Ham Company
Located in the heart of Escondido, The Honey Baked Ham Company at 144 W Washington Ave is much more than just a deli; it’s a cherished destination for gourmet grocery enthusiasts, deli lovers, and anyone seeking a truly memorable meal experience. Specializing in succulent, cured hams glazed with their signature sweet honey coating, this store has perfected the art of holiday feasts and everyday indulgences alike.
Step inside, and you’re instantly greeted by the mouthwatering aroma of smoked turkey and richly seasoned hams, each carefully crafted to deliver layers of flavor that linger on your palate. The expertly smoked and glazed turkey and ham aren’t just products—they’re the centerpiece of celebrations, as attested by loyal customers who return year after year. Robanilla gushes about their smoked turkey “glazed in the most decadently sweet honey glaze,” a description that precisely captures the balance of smoky depth and sweet, savory finish that makes these meats irresistible.
What truly sets The Honey Baked Ham Company apart is their seamless blend of convenience and quality. Customer Scott Martinez praises their “swift pickup even day before Christmas,” a reassurance that even during the busiest seasons, the experience is efficient without compromising freshness or flavor. Meanwhile, James Russell’s enthusiastic endorsement, calling their hams “simply The Best,” reinforces the peerless quality that loyal patrons swear by.
The store’s offerings extend beyond ham and turkey to an array of gourmet grocery items and a well-stocked gift shop, perfect for those seeking thoughtful, delicious presents or ingredients to elevate any home-cooked meal. Their sandwich shop is a quick stop for locals craving a handcrafted deli sandwich layered with premium meats and fresh toppings—each bite a testament to the brand’s commitment to quality.
Customers also appreciate the personalized service from the friendly and knowledgeable staff. This is evident in Dorothy Siegel’s glowing review of her Easter meal for 12, where the staff not only assisted with menu choices but helped ensure an abundance of leftovers perfect for hearty bean soup—a true mark of care beyond a simple transaction.
One of the most efficient ways to enjoy their offerings during peak times is through pre-ordering and reservations. As Ray Amundson notes, prepaying meant skipping long lines, transforming what could be a stressful holiday errand into a smooth, pleasant experience.
Whether you’re planning a grand holiday feast or simply looking to treat yourself to top-tier cured meats and gourmet groceries, The Honey Baked Ham Company in Escondido stands ready to deliver unparalleled quality, heartfelt service, and timeless flavor. It’s not just a store—it’s a staple in the culinary traditions of those who know where to find the very best.

It was a little crowded at 10am but we prepaid and that line was empty. The reservation line had 20 people waiting. We got the complete dinner package this year with the 9 pound for 134.00 so not too bad

We recently purchased our Easter meal for 12 people, and it was wonderful. Nothing but compliments. The Escondido staff was extremely helpful and even suggested we should get the 8 lb. ham, but my husband thought we needed the 10. Boy was she correct! We now have enough leftover ham to make your bean soup. Can't wait to try it. Dorothy Siegel San Diego

Slow service. Overly priced, I paid $35.00 for a rum cake that was very soggy and literally had no taste. According to one if the ladies there, this was suppose to be the best rum cake???that is questionable??? Maybe I will make one of mine for the holidays and take her one. Sandwich was ok.

They need a new location with a bigger poking lot, when ot in a busy season this location is super cramped and parking is a joke.

The girls working today were joyful and very friendly to say the least. Very welcoming after little bit of confusion via Google maps and finding the entrance. By the way, the store is actually OPEN, MON Nov 21, indicates closed, I was out of there just after 9:30AM. Quick. Efficient service. Thanks! Happy Holidays!
